With in-person play canceled indefinitely for Magic: The Gathering (MTG), MTG Arena is now the new epicenter for MTG players worldwide.
In case you’re unfamiliar with it, MTG Arena is the latest and greatest interactive digital platform for playing Magic: The Gathering. Millions of players from around the world play MTG Arena every day. Notably, MTG Arena offers players a path to reach higher levels of the game and earn large cash prizes. Here’s how it works: There is a ranking system within MTG Arena, as follows: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Mythic. The more you win, the more you level up your ranking. Your ranking resets to a lower level every month, based on where you finished at the end of the previous month. Players who finish within the Top 1200 Mythic rankings at the end of the month qualify for participation in a Mythic Qualifier, giving them a chance to earn a spot in the Mythic Invitational. The Top 16 Mythic Invitational Finalists receive a place in the MTG Grand Finals. Getting on this path begins with reaching Mythic on MTG Arena, which is why so many players focus on reaching Mythic every month, including my good friend Jeff Sheerin. Meet Jeff Sheerin – Founder of themythicmindset.com A professional Marketing & Proposal Writer by trade, Jeff is also a longtime competitive MTG player who recently launched a website called The Mythic Mindset. The Mythic Mindset helps players of all experience levels reach Mythic, improve their gameplay and mindset skills, and achieve any other goals they have in the game. Jeff has placed within the Top 1200 of Mythic several times, including in March, May, June, and July of 2020. He also has several other MTG accomplishments including:
Within the Mythic Mindset, Jeff shares his vast experience in competitive MTG while also showing players how to leverage strategies in high performance, mindfulness, and self-development to continuously improve as players and as people. What Content You Can Find on The Mythic Mindset As he explains in The Story Behind The Mythic Mindset, Jeff’s content is split into two segments. There are articles, which include in-depth explorations of specific topics and strategies around technical play and mindset. Examples of technical play articles include “The Truth About Sideboarding Guides and Sequencing 101. Mindset articles include Stop Qualifying Your Wins and How Disrespect Limits Your Success. He also recently published an article that tells how he came to within three game wins of reaching The Players Tour by challenging himself to escape his comfort zone and master an extremely challenging deck. The article, In Memoriam: Temur Rec, the End of My Beginning, explains the importance of continuously pushing your limits, and how doing so is the key to continued success. There is also the Grind Journal, which Jeff uses to share his day-to-day gameplay experiences and lessons learned. He breaks down the matches he plays in these posts, his card choices, and any notable lines of play or crucial mistakes. Grind Journal posts also include any relevant mindset notes that he wants to share to help provide perspective on his mental approach to a specific match (e.g., How to think when playing against a pro, how you identify what type of player you are). Together, the Grind Journal and Articles offer a robust collection of suitable content for any MTG player committed to continuous improvement in the game and in life. Between these two mediums, he posts new content multiple times a week on themythicmindset.com. In addition to his goal of becoming a professional Magic: The Gathering player, Jeff is also aspiring to become a full-time MTG content creator. He says that The Mythic Mindset is his first step towards reaching those goals while also giving him a chance to help other players achieve their highest MTG and life goals. You can reach Jeff on Twitter @JeffSheerin, or by email at [email protected]. Ask him for advice on MTG or pick his brain on mindfulness and self-development.
